The Legend of King Abdullah, of Saudi Arabia
THE LEGEND OF HRH KING ABDULLAH,
A GREAT AND NOBLE KING
By Darlene Cortez
King Abdullah is a very noble King. I feel that he will be written in history as one of the most famous and beloved kings. His heart is huge for humanity. Over the years, HRH King Abdullah has done much to help mankind, to promote peace upon earth, respect and understanding within and among the various religions, cultures, and nations, whose views are not the same, While maintaining his integrity with unparalleled dignity, maintaining and holding his personal views, standards, ethics, nobility, and principles to be true, and uncompromised, and in agreement with God’s holy laws, he was able to make agreements, offer peace initiative, diffuse tense situations, maintain peaceful on-going dialogue using his well-known and revered diplomacy with many leaders and citizens of Saudi Arabia, and with many world leaders and citizens of the world.
Saudi Arabia is fortunate to have such a forward thinking leader, who has brought new legions of success and prosperity to his country, opened doors of opportunity for the women in Saudi Arabia, and opened doors of opportunity to the men, women and children of his nation, and of the world. King Abdullah, who is regarded as a reformer by Saudi standards, is slowly moving to lift some restrictions dictated by conservative Saudi society.”( George Jahn, The Guardian). It is the King’s desire to allow more women to enter the workforce, but he is struggling against conservative clerics. He recently decreed that women would be allowed for the first time to vote and to run as candidates in elections for municipal councils starting in 2015.
HRH King Abdullah’s love for his people is legendary. His heart to help those who are poor in his country, and in the world, speaks volumes of his kind heart, unfailing integrity, honor, devout leadership, and spiritual leadership, as the king whom God chose to rule the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and also having a great and noble impact on the entire world. Because HRH King Abdullah demonstrated in a plethora of ways, that he is a true leader, and trailblazer as a Saudi King, and due to his many successful accomplishments, he was nominated for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
The people of his country love him dearly, and to show their love, respect and admiration for him, they came out in full force to show their support for his Nobel Prize nomination. The people of his country voted for him in overwhelming numbers, allowing him to receive more nominations than any other candidate in the Noble Prize’s history.
HRH King Abdullah is ranked by Forbes to be among the top, most powerful leaders in the world, for the third time in a row. He has been prestigiously ranked sixth in a list of 70 world leaders, with President Obama in the first position. HRH King Abdullah reached this honorable position due to his successful efforts to reform his Kingdom, improve the economic, environmental, educational, agricultural and social infrastructure, and grant women the right to vote and to hold Council positions, while he decisively increased women’s roles in business. HRH King Abdullah’s desire for his people to be educated, and to have access to the most sophisticated and latest technologies, educational research facilities, and superior educational instructions, led to his gallant and noble efforts to build additional schools, focus on educating all of his citizens, enlarge the scholarship funds for citizens, and modernize the educational system in Saudi Arabia, and build world class universities for his people.
Some of HRH King Abdullah’s various positions included Commander of the Saudi National Guard, Chairman of the Supreme Economic Council, President of the High Council for Petroleum and Minerals, President of the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue, Chairman of the Council of Civil Service, Head of the Military Service Council, Custodian of Two Holy Mosques, and His Majesty, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. When he became King, the citizens of Riyadh honored HRH King Abdullah with an international garden created in his honor. (Al Saudia) When completed, the garden will be one of the world’s largest and grandest gardens in the world, and has already won awards and international acclaim.
HRH King Abdullah became King on August 1, 2005, when he succeeded his brother, the late King Fahd. HRH King Abdullah is the sixth son of 37 sons of King Abdul-Aziz, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia. His mother was an Al-Rashid, who were longtime rivals of the Al Saud.
HRH King Abdullah has had thirteen wives, and has fathered at least thirty-five children. His youngest son was born in 2003. His son, Prince Mishal is the Governor of the Najran Province. His daughter Princess Adela is married to Prince Faisal bin Abdullah bin Muhammad, the new Education Minister appointed in 2009. Princess Adela is one of the few Saudi princesses with a semi-public role, as she is a known advocate of women’s right to drive. His daughter, Princess Sahab al Saud, married Sheikh Khaled Al Khalifa. He is the grandson of the King of Bahrain. HRH King Abdullah’s reign has been and continues to be hugely successful and legendary.
